RETIRED AND SENIOR VOLUNTEER
PROGRAM (RSVP)
RSVP is part of Senior Corps,
a network of national service programs that provide older Americans
the opportunity to apply their life experience to meeting community
needs. RSVP volunteers serve in a diverse range of non-profit
organizations, public agencies, and faith-based groups.
Volunteers may mentor at-risk youth, organize neighborhood watch
programs, teach English to immigrants, lend their business skills
to community agencies that provide much-needed social services,
and volunteer in many other ways to share their skills with
the community.
RSVP is open to people 55 and over.
Volunteers are paired with local organizations and many serve
from a few hours a month to almost full time. However,
the average volunteer commitment is about four hours a week.
Volunteers are not paid but sponsoring organizations may reimburse
them for some costs incurred during service.
RSVP has
over 700 senior volunteers at over 40 different non-profit agencies
throughout San Joaquin County. The local RSVP administrative
office provides volunteer placement assistance, pre-service
training to volunteers and in-service training to the agency
or organization where volunteers are placed.
